How to Get Rid of Unwanted Hair on Your Face and Body

Hair Removal Methods

Unwanted hair can be a real nuisance and there are many ways you can get rid of them. Unwanted hair commonly occurs on the chin, upper lips, cheeks, fingers, arms, back, legs, feet, toes etc.

The growth of unwanted hair may occur due to many reasons, including genetics, certain hormones, use of certain medications (steroids) and a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome.

The following ways are a few approaches to hair removal. It is important to note that with some of these methods, hair will grow back eventually.

Shaving
Women prefer this method because it often does not cause any pain and it can be done very quickly. Shaving is ideal for hair removal of the arms, legs and facial hair (for men only). However, shaving can cause an embarrassing problem called ingrown hairs, usually on the legs and pubic areas.

Plucking
This is also called tweezing, and can be done with the use of tweezers. Plucking can be very painful and time consuming as it involves pulling one hair at a time, therefore should only be done for a few number of hairs, for example, when you want to make a few final touches to your eyebrows or remove awkward hairs from your chin etc. Plucking can result in scarring and ingrown hairs. Eyebrows may also be shaved with a special tool called an Eyebrow Razor that can be purchased online here.

Waxing
Hot waxing can be a painful way to remove your hair, but it can be done on large areas as well as small areas. Moreover, it can also be done at home, with a DIY sugar wax (sugaring) and at the salon. Waxing works for many people, however, it is not completely fail-safe as the hairs can break off instead of being completely pulled out. Make sure the wax is not too hot, or you can easily burn your skin. Avoid waxing if you use certain prescription medications, specifically acne creams such as Retin-A or medications such as isotretinoin, because you may just pull your skin off while doing so. It’s important that you go to a reliable salon if you want to remove your hair with these methods because burns, infections and wounds can occur.

Threading
Threading is a method in which a thread is twisted in a manner to pull the hair out. It is commonly used for small regions such as the upper lips, eyebrows and chin.

Hair removal creams
These are also called depilatory creams. Not all creams are the same, therefore, make sure you read the box properly to check it if matches your skin type. You must also make sure that it is suitable for use for a specific art, for example, hair removal creams for the pubic regions or your legs should not be used on the face. Hair removal creams can also cause skin allergies, therefore, read instructions carefully, do a small skin test and use products with caution.

Laser hair removal
This hair removal method is long-lasting and involves continued treatments, about four or more. This method works by using a laser that eliminates the hair bulb. This is a fairly expensive method compared to the aforementioned ones and can also cause in pain at times. Make sure you choose a highly trained and experienced doctor for this method.
